the swoon

I've had the pleasure of working with the fine folk at Edisen as a graphics producer to help coordinate and produce all the graphics for The Swoon, a YouTube channel powered by Netflix.

The Swoon is a cozy little corner on the Internet, covering all K-Drama content for fans worldwide.

From providing behind-the-scenes access to popular Korean dramas to being a bridge for global fans to connect to casts through intimate interviews, high-stakes Jenga games, or even more directly in formats like Compliment Me.

It's a safe space for all types of K-Drama fans. Like, longtime pros who want to relive all the #SwoonWorthy moments in a show they can't entirely move on from... or for newbies who've just dipped into their toes into this world and need a friendly face for show recommendations.

swoon refresh / brand assets

During my time at The Swoon, I worked closely with the design team and clients to refine our Swoon voice and look and feel and spearheaded the creative production of the brand refresh.

We refreshed and extended the core Swoon brand assets, which included and were not limited to the Swoon BBs, non-emojis, and GFX pack, to have a cohesive look and feel across the channel and also to improve the team's workflow and turnaround times.

Swoon BBs

Swoon BBs - the lovable mascots we’ve had from day 1. They needed a little refresh, and we added more personalities!

There’s a spectrum of emotions when it comes to watching K-Dramas, and we tried to slowly but surely bridge the gap of the BBs we were missing in our videos.

You can find some of them here on GIPHY or use them in your Instagram stories if you search for stickers.

Non - Emojis

To help streamline the stickers our editors use in our videos, we extended the Swoon’s visual language to non-emojis!

We kicked it off by creating the most frequently used stickers in our videos that felt relevant & bespoke to our channel.

Like the sample images above ⬆️

  • The behind-the-scene sticker pack for our syndicated behind-the-scene videos

  • Or the rock, paper, scissors pack - because we use it as the game to settle the order of play in all our Jenga videos.

GFX Pack

The team and I designed a core graphic pack to allow flexibility and customization across edits in even the tightest turnarounds.

We leveled up in creating comprehensive MOGRTs, giving editors of all levels and styles the power to lend their flair without the tech hassles.

swoon refresh / staple concepts

Speaking of sprucing up, we also had the following game graphic suites refreshed 🧹🧹🧹
They're all definite fan favorites and the channel's longest-standing formats.

Compliment Me

It’s a chance for fans to share their love for the stars directly and see their favorite Oppa blush in real-time to their compliments.

The refresh allowed us to create seamless game variations like the Cat Ears edition.

Reactions

Reactions is a recurring concept where you watch the cast reacting to the show/film they’re in as they rewatch scenes and share their insights on their journey of making the show and memories on set.

Jenga

The cast must build a Jenga tower without making it topple, answer the hard-hitting questions and perform time-sensitive challenges! It’s always an unpredictable experience as a viewer - like having a surprise rap performance by one of the stars 🤪 (check it out above!)

editorial

Editorials are the non-shoot-based content, like compilations of Swoonworthy moments in a show, celebrating just K-Dramas things, crackhead meme edits, an educational moment, or show recommendations.

According to K-Dramas & Listicles

This is a broad category that celebrates the specificities of K-Dramas, character/show moments and also sometimes a way one might be introduced to multiple shows to watch.

Other examples include and not limited to, Only Girl in the Group, Vincenzo Brain-map, 21 Rom Coms, 99 Squad Funny Moments

Educational

Forget textbooks and classes - sometimes the best teacher is watching K-dramas & immersing yourself in learning about the culture or the essential Korean phrases.

Other examples include: Learning Korean with K-Dramas series

Special Mention

This Christmas crack edit, was a true bonding experience for all those involved, myself, the designers, editor, writers, & operations - and probably one of the most fun projects to work with Highschool Musical blasting in the background.

Another honorable mention is the crackhead meme edit, K-Dramas trolling us for laughs. GFX had no part in it, it’s all the editor!
But it’s definitely a fun one to watch while you’re here 🌚.

shoots

Shoot concepts are a chance for fans to connect with the cast. Whether they're answering alongside the stars in Superfan quizzes, getting to know them through the Up Close and Personal interviews, or in staples like Compliment Me, attached below are some examples of repeatable formats like Secret Mission and show-specific videos like Mood Meter.

quizzes

The Swoon quiz videos have been another touchpoint in the immersive fan experience at the Swoon.

Interactive

With our interactive videos like How Would You Fare in the Squid Game? where viewers are taken through a simulation of what it would be like to be in the Squid Game. (Our lean, super team for this project managed to churn this out in a week, shout out to Marilyn and Joie!)

Other examples include: Try Not to Close Your Eyes, a Halloween special quiz, or K-Drama Boyfriend spearheaded by Joie - find out who your K-Drama boyfriend is in the comprehensive quiz!

Personality

Our personality test content like Horoscopes or Blood Type crosses over a little with editorial content while giving our audience another opportunity to feel seen. Plus, who doesn’t love a personality test?

Other examples include: Nevertheless, Romance Styles,
